KVF 2018 NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS FINALS UNDERWAY

The KVF 2018 National Open Championship has reached its peak as the Men and Women senior teams final is set to take place between seasonal and perennial rivals in both men and women category. In attendance to witness the final is Nyeri Town Member of Parliament, Honourable Ngunjiri Wambugu, flanked by Aguthi ward MCA,KVF President Waithaka Kioni, 1st Vice Chair Charles Nyaberi, Deputy Treasurer Moses Mbuthia among other top officials of the federation. 

The Ladies' finals will be a repeat of the Amaco international tournament semi-final in which Prisons Kenya faced-off with Kenya Pipeline. The Japheth Munala led charges are set to continue their impressive form but will have to topple a rejuvenated Prisons side, under the tutelage of Coach David Lung'aho. 

In the men final, GSU, who are ranked as the 5th best club in Africa faces bitter rivals and the only Kenyan team to have won a silver medal in the African Club Championships, Prisons Kenya, who are out to end the dominance of their fellow servicemen.

KVF 2018 NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS REACHES THE KNOCKOUT STAGES

The KVF 2018 National Open Championships has reached the knockout stage following the completion of the preliminary matches.

Five time African club Champions, Prisons Kenya qualifies as group winners after winning all their group matches and will square it out with DCI, the runners-up of pool B. In the other semi-final, current national champions, Kenya Pipeline, under the tutelage of veteran coach Japheth Munala will face Kwanthanze Secondary School for a spot in the final.

Both matches will be played concurrently and the winners of both matches will play each other in the final to decide the winner of this year's Prestigious Championships. 

The first semi-final berth for the senior men category will see Prisons Kenya square it out with Equity while National champions GSU will play KPA in the second semi-final.

In the self-sponsored category for women, Kerugoya will face Nanyuki in the first quarter final. The second quarter final pits Huruma Queens against Equator, Bomet County will face Nyeri water in the third quarter final while the 4th quarter final will be between Kahawa and Mbiriri. In the men category of self-sponsored teams, Tigers will play Aguthi in the first quarter final while Mbiriri will face Kimbo in the second quarter finals.

 

KVF 2018 NATIONAL OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY 1

Following the completion of the national league matches on Friday, the 24th of June, 2018, the KVF 2018 national open championships served off at the same venue, after a preliminary meeting and technical meeting was held earlier on the day to come up with the pools for the participating, The KVF open Championships attracted many teams that were categorized differently including senior (league) teams, self-supporting teams, schools and colleges/universities.

With the vast number of teams taking part in the prestigious tournament, the day turned out to be a bee-hive of activities as the respective the preliminary matches took place back-to-back. There were some eye-catching performances by some of the schools and colleges teams who toppled some of the senior teams in their respective pools. Current national and East African secondary schools champions, Kwanthanze secondary school caused an early upset after seeing off a more experienced KDF side 3-1 before beating the 2018 Amaco tournament runners-up, Kenya Pipeline B side in similar sets as they set their eyes on the forthcoming national secondary schools games. The Coach Kigwari led charges lost one match, after going down 0-3 to Prisons Kenya ladies team.

 

In another match, University side, Strathmore men, came from two sets down to beat current league leaders Equity 3-2 as they seek to qualify for the latter stages of the tournament. Once all the preliminary matches are complete, top teams will proceed to the knockout stages.
