Kenya Volleyball Federation has unveiled the 14-member squad of the women's National Team, Malkia Strikers, as they are commonly known, that will represent the Country, and the African continent as a whole together with Cameroun  in the forthcoming 2018 FIVB Women's World Championships that will be staged in Japan between the 29th of September and 20th of October, 2018. Present during the presentation were KVF to officials led by KVF President Waithaka Kioni, 2nd Vice President David Kilundo, Secretary General Ben Juma and Technical Director David Lung'aho. The event was also witnessed in real-time by members of the Media fraternity.

While addressing the media, Captain Mercy Moim said that the team will be out to put in a good show as they seek to register maximum wins in this year’s championship. She was confident that the team, comprising a blend of youth and experience, will represent the country fully and bring home the coveted trophy. She however cautioned the media on publication of false information about the team or team members. This was in reference to the much hyped article about Malkia Strikers cancelling their participation in the world championship.

On his part, KVF President Waithaka Kioni thanked the National Oil Corporation for their continued support for the national team as they prepare for the Japan showdown. Kioni further revealed that plans were well ahead to send the team to Japan ten days prior to the commencement of the championship in order to acclimatize and play build-up matches with local teams. The team will depart on the 18th of September 2018 in readiness for the showpiece which serve-off on the 29th of September 2018. The KVF also said that Kenya was unable to host international competitions like we did in the past due lack of facilities, specifically an indoor gymnasium of international standards. This is because of the new regulations that any international competition must have a 24 teams and the host to avail at least two indoor facilities for the event. “Kenya as a nation will only be able to host age group competitions” Mr. Kioni added.

Head Coach Japheth Munala said that he was happy with the team selection and was very confident that the team will register good results. He reiterated that the players were selected on merit after a two month long training sessions that began in June.

In addition to naming of the Japan-bound team, KVF also unveiled part of the team (Malkia Strikers B) that will represent the country in the forthcoming inaugural East African Community games that will be played in Bujumbura, Burundi; and Malkia Strikers U-20 that will compete in the Under-20 African Cup of Nations that serves-off in ten days’ time at Kasarani Indoor gymnasium, in Nairobi.. Part of the team includes that is headed to Burundi includes:
